The mission of this newly established Center of Excellence is to advance precision medicine approaches in diagnosing and applying targeted therapies for pediatric illnesses, with the aim of improving the quality and outcomes of children’s healthcare.

Research infrastructure will be established at the center, including a biobank, genomics and data analysis unit, as well as a clinical trial unit. This will enable a deeper understanding of the genetic foundations of pediatric diseases and foster the development and implementation of new therapies that can substantially improve treatment outcomes in the future. The PMPC project will also focus on knowledge transfer and research in areas such as rapid molecular diagnostics and cell-based immunotherapies (CAR-T).

The President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, honored the opening of the Pediatric Precision Medicine Center with his presence at the Children’s Hospital, highlighting the significance of the PMPC for both Latvia’s healthcare and scientific development.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Health, the Minister of Finance, European Commission representatives, health sector professionals, researchers, patient representatives and guests from international organizations. This project is crucial not only for the development of Latvia’s healthcare system but also for expanding international collaboration and elevating Latvia’s scientific excellence.
