PMPC to contribute to EU Cancer Mission Showcase Event in Brussels
PMPC Center of Excellence will be represented at the European Commission’s “5 Years EU Cancer Mission: Stronger Through Connection” event in Brussels, taking place from 29 September to 1 October 2026.
PMPC Center of Excellence will be represented at the European Commission’s “5 Years EU Cancer Mission: Stronger Through Connection” event in Brussels, taking place from 29 September to 1 October 2026.
he event marks five years of the EU Cancer Mission and will bring together researchers, clinicians, policymakers, patients, innovators, funders and other stakeholders to discuss how research and innovation can translate into better outcomes for people affected by cancer. The programme will focus on key areas including prevention, early detection, personalised medicine and quality of life.
As a representative of PMPC Center of Excellence, Roberts Melbārdis, head of the Center, has been invited to contribute to the discussion “How can patients benefit from innovation in personalised oncology?” on 1 October.
His contribution will bring a paediatric oncology perspective to the European discussion and highlight the experience of developing a Centre of Excellence for precision medicine in paediatric care in Latvia.
For children with cancer, precision medicine offers new opportunities for more precise diagnostics, better understanding of disease biology and more targeted treatment. However, scientific progress can only translate into meaningful patient benefit when innovative approaches, expertise and advanced diagnostics are accessible to children regardless of where they live.
European collaboration plays an important role in making this possible. By connecting clinical expertise, research, molecular diagnostics, data and access to innovative therapies across countries, Europe can help reduce inequalities in childhood cancer care and ensure that advances in precision medicine reach more children.
